In Australia alone, we throw away more than 150,000km of wrapping paper during Christmas. Wrapping paper that most often isn't recyclable (due to the pretty, shiny inks laced with plastic). All of our packaging, yes even down to the shipping label on the exterior box, is recyclable, eco-friendly and made from sustainable sources.
Before I created the 12-days of chocolate box I was astounded that there currently was no box like it in Australia. Yes, I could find fairy floss advent calendars, lots of chocolate boxes (from unethical or unknown sources or perhaps not even vegan) but nothing that included a variety of sizes of chocolates and more importantly eco-friendly, ethical and vegan. All of our chocolates are made from ethically sourced ingredients so you can sleep softly after your Christmas marathon, knowing that you have supported a small business that supports other fellow small businesses and growers.
So next time you're perusing the aisles of the supermarket and you spot the advent calendars for $2 I hope it makes you ponder who exactly was exploited, what ingredients are actually used and will this end up in landfill due to the plastic coating?
